Team Illinois ended the fall season with a great weekend of skiing in Arvin, California for the NCWSA D1 Nationals. 14 members of our team flew out last Wednesday to compete against some of the best skiers
in the world. Both women and men slalomed on Thursday: Kathleen Nolan and Kara Builta skied their personal bests...while the men probably earned their personal worsts. Men's trick and women's jump kept the team in 11th place
for the remainder of Friday, but the men redeemed themselves by jumping exceptionally well during the last event of the tournament with the help of some spirit from a very enthusiastic Team Midwest. Jason Stelzer jumped his personal best
and Mark Cassidy jumped near his personal best and broke the Men's team Jump record after being given what may have been the record for the most cheeks involved in one mooning (To view team records, please visit the
records page).
At the awards banquet on Saturday night, the University of Illinois was awarded with a trophy for 10th place out of all the collegiate teams in the country. We partied even better than we skied and even enjoyed our time in the airport before
our flight the following morning. We look forward to a winter full of team bonding with upcoming social events such as the apartment scramble and team barcrawl!

Yesterday concluded the Midwest Collegiate Regionals Tournament and took
3rd overall and qualified for D1 Nationals in California!!! We will be competing in the Nationals tournament
from October 22-24 in Arvin, California. The team skiied exceptionally and surprised many other teams by getting ahead early and staying there. There were also many individual accomplishments such as: Jason, Tom, and Kyle all acheiving
tournament personal bests in Slalom, Jason personal bested in Jump at 64 ft, Mark Cassidy tied his personal best in trick with 3050 pts and took 1st in Trick, Mark tied for 1st in Mens Overall, we had
all five girls land jumps,
Kathleen ran a pass at 24 mph and the entire womens team had a great tournament (more personal bests will be posted ASAP). The entire team is really excited and we are all looking forward to an awesome
time in California!

Over the weekend, we traveled up to Waters Edge in Wilmington to compete in the Great Plains Conference Championships hosted by Wisconsin, Madison. Once again, the Illini Waterski Team finished 3rd overall and secured
a spot in the Midwest Collegiate Regionals Tournament. Both men and women had a solid weekend with the men placing 4th in Slalom, 2nd in Trick, and 3rd in Jump and the women also placing 4th in Slalom,
1st in Trick,
and 4th in Jump! Everyone had a great weekend spending time with familiar faces from other Midwest schools and skiing at a great site. Saturday night was spent hanging out with Disney Thugs and celebrating our very own Mark
Cassidy's 21st birthday! It was a great weekend overall and we are looking forward to spending next weekend at PITS in Decatur for Midwest Collegiate Regionals!
